More about me
I'm Kate, a photographer of motherhood and all of the love and change that it brings. Photographing your connection with your children brings me such joy, and I am so grateful that this career has chosen me.
Hi there!
As a photographer, one of the most exciting aspects of New Jersey in-home newborn photography sessions is that no two are ever alike – even if I were to photograph in the same house at different times. Every session is shaped by a unique combination of elements that come together to create something completely individual and magical for each family.
Some homes have large, airy windows that flood rooms with soft natural light, while others offer intimate pockets of directional light that create dramatic contrast. Different times of day will provide different colors and angles of light. Even the time of year changes how light moves through a space – winter’s low sun angles create different patterns than summer’s overhead glow. And let’s be honest – some days we’re working with bright, direct sunlight while others give us moody, overcast lighting that transforms the entire feel of our images.
Each time I walk into a home for a New Jersey in-home Newborn photography session, one of the first things I do is to take a walk around your home and look at the light. While you may think that the background is what I am interested in, it’s actually how the light falls in each room that is the most important to me. I love photographing in the primary bedroom or nursery if the light allows for it, but sometimes I will find some magical light by a staircase or in a room you never thought of using for your photos. Recently I photographed in a laundry room that had the most beautiful light!
When I walked into this family’s beautiful home, I immediately noticed this pocket of light at the bottom of their stairs. I am always so lucky to have families that trust me and this family was no exception. In our conversations leading up to their session, they had mentioned the living room, nursery, and primary bedroom for their photos – not the base of their stairs! I’m so glad they trusted me because the light was perfect and I loved this series of photos!
Each home’s unique features gives me different tools to work with when creating your images. Modern homes often provide clean lines and minimal backgrounds, letting you take center stage in your photos. Historic homes might offer intricate moldings, archways, or staircases that naturally frame you. Some spaces have open floor plans that let light flow freely, while others create cozy nooks perfect for intimate portraits. Even ceiling heights change how I can compose my images – tall ceilings let me play with negative space, while lower ones create a sense of warmth and intimacy.
Beyond the physical structure, each home carries its own personality through your decor choices, color palettes, and furniture arrangement. Some clients have carefully curated minimalist spaces, others embrace cozy maximalism, and many fall somewhere in between. These elements become part of the visual story, offering natural props and settings that reflect who our subjects really are.
When I arrive for your New Jersey in-home newborn photography session, I sometimes will move things around to create a more visually appealing image. This is typically things like chargers, or items on a side table. I will occasionally ask to move larger pieces of furniture around if I think it will make your images especially beautiful. Please know that you always have the option to say no to any of my requests, and that I always put everything back before I leave!
In this home, I loved this corner spot on the couch. It feels cozy and inviting, but also gives a glimpse into the family’s dining room – another place where they gather together. This series gives sense of the modern and bright decor throughout their home.
Even when photographing in the same home multiple times, weather conditions create entirely different scenarios. Rainy days might push us to work with softer, diffused light and cozy indoor settings, while sunny days let us play with both indoor and outdoor spaces. Cloudy skies act like a giant softbox, creating even lighting throughout the home but requiring different technical approaches. Depending on the windows in your home, the trees outside, and the weather, you may find me using some additional lighting to ensure that I can create gorgeous images for your family.
This endless variety is exactly what makes each one of my New Jersey in-home newborn photography sessions so creatively fulfilling. While studio work offers consistency and control, New Jersey in-home newborn photography challenges me to think on my feet and find unique solutions for each space to create beautiful images for your family. Every session becomes a custom experience, resulting in images that couldn’t be recreated anywhere else.
The real magic happens when all these elements come together – when the light hits just right in a family’s favorite spot, when architectural features frame a moment perfectly, when personal style adds context to connection. These aren’t just photos in a house; they’re stories told through the unique combination of elements that make each home, and each session, one of a kind.
