Deciding to Have a Cranbury NJ Newborn Photography Session

When Danielle first reached out about her Cranbury NJ newborn photography session she expressed that she wasn’t even sure she wanted to have one. This isn’t an uncommon thing for me to hear when people get in touch with me. In all of the craziness of the newborn phase, adding one more thing to plan and prep for can feel like a lot to add to your already full plate.

I can think of at least 5 reasons to book a newborn session, even if it feels overwhelming, and I’m so glad that Danielle decided to move forward and have me photograph her beautiful little girl.

Selecting Dresses From The Client Closet

Danielle filled out my questionnaire about her session and when we met for her Styling and Planning session I had already pulled a selection of dresses for her to look through. She has a very clean and neutral style so we selected a beautiful cream dress with light gray flowers on it to make sure she fit the aesthetic of her home, but also didn’t blend into the background.

Photographing The Session

Sweet Sophia snuggled right into her parents’ arms as we started with family photos on the bed. The clean lines and bright sunlight made photographing in their primary bedroom an absolute dream. We went with a simple white wrap and a neutral headband to fit the overall look of the session.

After family portraits, I photographed a few solo portraits of all her wrapped up and cozy. I follow a posing style called “Baby Led Posing” where the baby is only ever placed in positions that are safe, comfortable, and that a baby would naturally put themselves in. Once I place the baby in a position, I let them stretch, move, and get comfortable and photograph everything along the way.

The Nursery

Danielle took such care in selecting the details for Sophia’s nursery. We even waited a few days longer to make sure that the beautiful name sign had arrived and been installed.

Incorporating Every Family Member

We moved downstairs to their gorgeous sun-drenched living room and were joined by their sweet pup Cooper who had been keeping a watchful eye over his new baby throughout the session. As long as your dog is comfortable with your new baby and with me being in your home, I love making sure we photograph your fur babies during your session!

Beautiful Baby Portraits

We finished up the session back upstairs. Sophia was fast asleep and perfectly snuggled for some more solo baby portraits. We had been able to capture some beautiful portraits at the start of the session, but she was so deeply asleep and comfortable that I couldn’t resist photographing her some more!
