More about me
I'm Kate, a photographer of motherhood and all of the love and change that it brings. Photographing your connection with your children brings me such joy, and I am so grateful that this career has chosen me.
Hi there!
These beautiful outdoor maternity photos in Cranbury, NJ were full of warm, golden light that we almost didn’t have due to weather. With a little flexibility in scheduling, a beautiful mix of film and digital images, and the sweetest couple to photograph, we were able to capture a large variety of images that created a truly stunning maternity gallery.
Outdoor maternity photos in New Jersey in the spring can be a little tricky when it comes to the weather. We get a lot of rain here in the spring and planning around the weather takes some flexibility and bit of good luck.
We had originally planned to photograph this session on a Saturday, but the weather was looking questionable with the chance of a lot of rain. We decided to wait until the following day. Sure enough – it rained the entire day on Saturday and was gray and cloudy for the majority of Sunday. I was starting to re-work my session plan to reflect the weather but as I was driving to the location, the clouds completely disappeared and the sun came out. The weather ended up being absolutely perfect for the entire session!
In the week leading up to outdoor maternity photos, or any outdoor portrait session, I keep a close eye on the weather and check in with my clients a few times if it looks like we might have rain. I am perfectly happy to photograph on an overcast day (in fact, I love it!), but I will reschedule for rain or thunderstorms.
If you are planning to have outdoor maternity photos, I recommend scheduling them early enough so that you have some flexibility if we need to reschedule and use a rain date.
Outdoor maternity photos allow for a wide variety of looks and locations. We started on a beautiful tree-lined pathway facing the light, then we turned around in the same spot so that the sun was framing them in a gorgeous glow. Finally, we walked out from under the trees and captured images in front of some tall grass with a more open sky filled with soft, golden light.
Because of the beautiful light I was able to photograph a perfect mix of film and digital images – keep scrolling to see a selection of both and let me know in the comments if you can spot the difference, and which you prefer.
A huge thank you to these two for a truly magical session! They were so willing to try each pose and location that I threw at them and I am thrilled with the outcome! I am already looking forward to their newborn photos and can’t wait to share them with you in the near future!
