Family Photos at Pretty Bird Farm: A Full Circle Moment
The last time I photographed the H family at Pretty Bird Farm, Mom was pregnant and they were excitedly awaiting the arrival of their son. This September, we came back for flower farm family photos in the same garden, and that baby was two years old and running ahead of all of us at top speed!
Sessions like this are one of my favorite parts of this work, because I get to see families grow over the years instead of meeting them just once.
A Two-Year-Old on a Mission
Pretty Bird Farm has chickens, and once he saw one, that was his whole mission. He ran up and down the rows of flowers yelling “Chicken! Chicken!” with total commitment.
And yes, he found them!
His joy was contagious. Within a few minutes the whole family was in on it, stopping to smell the flowers, breaking into tickle fights, skipping up and down the rows, and wandering the paths together. Those are the moments I hope for at every family session. Nobody was posing. They were just spending a fun evening together, and I got to photograph it.
When the Photographer Gets in the Photo
Mom is a photographer herself which made this session even more special. You can see her work at Golden Heart Photography. I always love when photographers book a session for their own family, because they know better than anyone how rarely the person holding the camera ends up in the pictures.
Why Overcast Evenings Are Perfect for Flower Farm Family Photos
It was an overcast evening, which a lot of people worry about when they book a session. I actually love it. Clouds soften the light, so there are no harsh shadows or squinting, and kids can run wherever they want without me chasing a patch of good light. The colors of the flowers stayed rich and true all evening.
