More about me
I'm Kate, a photographer of motherhood and all of the love and change that it brings. Photographing your connection with your children brings me such joy, and I am so grateful that this career has chosen me.
Hi there!
It is finally time for me to launch this beauty into the world and I am so excited to share it with you! This has been such a long time in the making, but I promise – it has been so worth the wait.
When I say a long time in the making – I mean 12 years.
How is that even possible?
As I’ve gone through this redesign process, it has become incredibly clear that without all of the years of photography and these last few years as a mother, I would never have known exactly what I wanted to create for you. This rebrand is more than just a beautiful new website and logo – it’s a way to help you feel and understand the Kate Voda Photography experience before you even step in front of my camera.
Let me guide you through a quick tour.
My new logo – oh my goodness… When my incredible designer Designs By Josephine first sent me the draft of it, I was truly speechless (which if you know me, you know that’s a big deal!). It is so elegant, timeless, and beautiful and she seamlessly and subtly incorporated so many things into it that perfectly represent both my business and myself.
The first thing you might notice is that my logo is shaped a bit like a four leaf clover. This is a subtle nod to my family roots and history in Boston, Massachusetts. My great-gandmother bought a house in Charlestown, MA when she arrived to America from Ireland. 4 generations of Carrolls lived in that beautiful brownstone (myself included) and my love for the city runs very, very deep.
The four-leaf clover serves another, incredibly beautiful purpose. My son, Augie, has Down syndrome which is when there are 3 copies of the 21st chromosome instead of 2. While his diagnosis was scary when we first received it, I wouldn’t change my beautiful boy for the entire world. He is the best person I have ever met and I am so grateful to be his mother.
In the Down syndrome community, you will frequently find Down syndrome compared to a four-leaf clover. In a field of clover, occasionally you will find a one that has 4 leaves instead of three. No one knows why it happens, but when it does, that four-leaf clover is considered special, lucky, important, worthy.
This is just like Down syndrome. No one knows why it happens, but families who have a family member with Down syndrome very much consider our family member to be special, lucky, important, and worthy – to the extent that we even call ourselves “The Lucky Few” for getting to love a person with Down syndrome.
The final thing you might notice is that the design in each leaf resembles a mother’s arms encircling her child. This is a beautiful nod to my focus in my photography – the intense love and bond between a mother and her child.
Each color was carefully chosen to make you feel comfortable, welcomed, and supported. After spending far too much time in doctors’ offices during my pregnancy and after Augie was born, I felt repelled by anything that was too stark. It brought me back to hospital rooms and office exam rooms. Instead, the goal was to make everything feel like a warm, comforting hug.
Josephine beautifully created this design that encompasses the things that make me who I am and I could not be more grateful for her creativity, vision, and expertise!
As a mother who has traveled a bit of a bumpy road in my first few years of motherhood, I know just how many things we mothers are constantly juggling. Appointments, medication times, sports, dinner preferences – your photo session shouldn’t be one more thing to have to juggle.
My goal is to expertly guide you through the entire process and to take as much off of your plate as possible. From questionnaires that help me select the perfect location options for your session, to my client closet where you can pick a dress from a curated collection, to custom album design and prints included in your package so you don’t have to worry about remembering to make them “one day” – I take care of as much of the planning as possible.
And finally – when you work with me, please know that you are always in a supportive and non-judgemental environment. However you have come to motherhood – with ease, with difficulty, through IVF, through adoption, with a diagnosis for your child, or anything else – you and your family are welcome and celebrated here. Your choices for your children and family are yours and yours alone. No one can know what you have gone through or how you have made those decisions, and it is no one’s place to judge. My goal is to champion you always.
I truly welcome, support, and champion people of all abilities, and motherhood in all of its forms and I want you to feel that throughout your time with me – and beyond.
So with that, please take a look around the new website, enjoy the beautiful photos, and let me know your thoughts on the new design!
