More about me
I'm Kate, a photographer of motherhood and all of the love and change that it brings. Photographing your connection with your children brings me such joy, and I am so grateful that this career has chosen me.
Hi there!
July 25, 2025
If you’re expecting (congratulations!) and researching New Jersey newborn photography booking options, you may have noticed that many photographers suggest booking your photos between 5-10 days after baby arrives. This approach works well for some families, but I’ve found another way that seems to work better for my clients and removes the stress of being photo-ready so quickly after giving birth.
When you book a newborn session with me, you’re booking a spot, not a specific date. Let me walk you through how this works and why it might be exactly what your family needs here in central New Jersey.
You’ll find lots of photographers who follow that 5-10 day timeline, and that’s perfectly fine for families who feel ready during that window. But here’s what I’ve learned in my 10 years as a photographer and as a mom myself: every family’s journey is unique. Some babies arrive early, some arrive late, and some moms need more time to recover than others.
I’ve found that giving families the flexibility to choose their timing based on their personal experience – rather than a predetermined schedule – creates a much more relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone.

When you book your New Jersey newborn photography session with me, you’re securing one of the limited spots I reserve each month specifically for newborn families. I intentionally keep this number manageable so I can truly accommodate the unpredictable nature of birth and early parenthood.
You book your spot anytime during your pregnancy (I typically suggest reaching out once you’ve made it to your second trimester, though I understand not every pregnancy journey is straightforward, and I’ll do my best to accommodate families who need to wait longer for whatever reason).
Once you’re home and settled from the hospital, you send me a simple email letting me know your sweet baby has arrived. I respond with a private scheduling link that’s exclusively for my newborn clients. This link shows you all my available session dates, and you can choose the time that works best for your family’s specific needs.

My number one priority is how you – mama – are feeling for the session. Not arbitrary timelines, not what other photographers say is “ideal” – but how YOU are doing.
Sometimes my sessions don’t happen until 2, 3, 4, or even 5 weeks after baby arrives. And that’s perfectly okay. If your baby is working through a medical situation or feeding troubles, if you’re dealing with postpartum recovery challenges, or if you simply don’t feel ready yet – we wait until you do.
I learned this lesson personally when my own son was in the NICU for almost a month after he was born. Between his extended hospital stay and my own postpartum recovery, by the time I was able to do his newborn photos, he was already 5 weeks old. And you know what? Those photos are still precious. It was so much better to capture those memories when I was feeling up to it and could actually enjoy the experience, rather than forcing something when I felt terrible and exhausted.
I never want any family to look back at their newborn photos and remember feeling awful during the session. These should be joyful memories of your growing family, not something you had to endure because a photographer insisted on rigid timing.

When clients tell me what they appreciate most about my New Jersey newborn photography booking system, it always comes back to the same thing: they don’t feel trapped in a specific timeframe. There’s no panic about whether baby will arrive “on schedule” or whether you’ll be ready exactly 7 days postpartum.
Instead, you can focus on what really matters – bonding with your new baby, recovering from birth, and settling into your new rhythm as a family. When you’re ready for photos, that’s when we’ll schedule them.

This is exactly why the flexible system works so well. Whether your little one arrives at 36 weeks or 42 weeks, you still have your reserved spot. We just adjust the timing based on when they actually arrive and when you’re feeling ready.
You don’t have to! That’s the beauty of this New Jersey newborn photography booking system. You secure your spot now, and we handle the specific date after baby arrives and you know your family’s needs.
While I find that 10 AM tends to work well for most families with newborns, every family and every baby is different. If you need a different start time, just let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate your particular needs.

If this New Jersey newborn photography booking approach sounds like exactly what you need for your growing family, I’d love to chat about reserving your spot. The best part? You can book with confidence knowing that we’ll work together to find the perfect timing once your baby arrives.
