August Alexander (or Augie, as we call him) arrived on Wednesday March 10th at 5:08pm. He weighed in at 6lbs 3 oz and 18.5 inches long. He is as sweet as anything and we are totally in love!
Our Augie is an extra special little guy and Chris and I are now blessed to be part of #TheLuckyFew. Augie was born with an extra chromosome also known as Trisomy 21 or Down syndrome. He also has a few heart problems which will require open heart surgery when he is a few months older.
While this may come as a surprise to some of you, we have known about his diagnosis since I was 13 weeks pregnant. We knew our little guy was strong and a fighter, and we have been so excited this entire time to meet our little miracle. As we expected, he has been showing everyone that he is strong as anything from the moment he was born.
He is currently in the NICU charming all the nurses, working on getting stronger, and we can’t wait to have him home with us!
It was important for us to announce Augie’s arrival today because today is #WorldDownSyndromeDay. March 21st was picked because Down syndrome is 3 copies of the 21st chromosome (3/21). We are spending today in the NICU celebrating our sweet little guy, all of the amazing individuals with Down syndrome, and their families!
